Resources and mana

The resources

Resource Made by Used for
Iron Iron Mine, tithe Almost everything.
Runestone Runestone Quarry, tithe Lore, magic buildings, units.
Aether Aether Condenser Marches, the Aether Furnace, advanced units, buildings and lore.
Mana Ley Tap, Aether Furnace, Sun Prisms Powers the mines. It is a rate, not a stock.
Fateshards Starting gift, quests Counsellors, boons, the merchant, rushing. Belong to the lord, not a stronghold.

Iron, runestone and aether are stored in each stronghold separately. Hosts carry them between strongholds (convoys).

How yield works

Resources are not counted out every second: each stronghold remembers its stock and when it was last updated, and the game works the stock forward whenever it is needed. The result is the same as a tick every second, including vaults filling up and bonuses running out part-way.

Every hour a stronghold receives:

Tithe + mine output × mana ratio × (1 + yield bonuses + golem bonus) × economy speed

  • The tithe is paid even with no mines (× economy speed):

    Resource Tithe per hour
    Iron 30
    Runestone 15
    Aether 0
  • Mine output comes from the mine's level (see the table below). Each producer can be throttled from 0% to 100% in steps of 10% in the Realm panel; the output and the mana it uses scale with the throttle.

  • The mana ratio is mana produced ÷ mana required, at most 1.
  • Yield bonuses add up: the site's bonus, Sunfire Alchemy, the Guildmaster (+25%), the Prospector (+10%), the full council (+2%), the Merchant League (+5%), kindred buildings and arts, and blessings.
  • The Aether Furnace burns aether every hour to make mana, so it lowers the aether yield.

Skyholds yield nothing, and a realm in Sanctuary yields nothing.

Mana

Mines, quarries and condensers need mana. Every Delver Golem needs 50 more.

Source Mana per hour
Ley Tap level L 20 × L × 1.1^L
Aether Furnace level L 30 × L × (1.05 + 0.01 × Mana Theory)^L, burning 10 × L × 1.1^L aether
Each Sun Prism ⌊(highest temperature + 140) ÷ 6⌋

Mana production is multiplied by (1 + mana bonuses): the Guildmaster (+10%), the Master Mason (+10%), the full council (+2%), the Merchant League (+5%), kindred buildings and arts, and the Ley Surge boon (+10%).

When mana required exceeds mana produced, every mine slows to the ratio produced ÷ required. A stronghold that makes 80 mana for mines needing 100 runs all of them at 80%.

Some buildings and lore also need a minimum mana production to be built or studied: the Earthshaper Circle, the Healers' Lodge and Titan Binding.

Mine output by level

Base output per hour before bonuses, in a 1× world. The Aether Condenser column is for a stronghold whose highest temperature is 0 °C; multiply by (1.44 − 0.004 × temperature) ÷ 1.44 for other sites.

Vaults

Each resource has a vault: the Iron Vault, the Rune Vault and the Aether Cistern. A stronghold without vaults holds 10,000 of each.

Capacity = 5,000 × ⌊2.5 × e^(20 × level ÷ 33)⌋ × (1 + storage bonuses)

Storage bonuses come from kindred buildings and arts and the Merchant League (+10%).

4 140,000

18 683,385,000
19 1,252,785,000
20 2,296,600,000
  • A full vault stops its mine. The resource stays at the cap.
  • Deliveries can exceed the cap: convoys, returning hosts with plunder, salvage and quest finds are always added in full.
  • The moneychanger will not sell you more than your vaults can hold.

Delver Golems

Delver Golems are a Guildmaster's unit that works the mines. Each golem adds 0.02% to the yield of iron, runestone and aether, up to +50%, and uses 50 mana. Only 8 golems per mine level count (the levels of the Iron Mine, Runestone Quarry and Aether Condenser added together), but every golem uses mana.

Plots

Every building level takes one plot. A stronghold's plots are:

Plots of the site + the world's bonus plots + Earthshaper Circle plots + Land Grants

  • The Seat has 163 plots; other holds roll theirs when settled (see the world).
  • The Earthshaper Circle adds 5 plots per level and 6 on every even level.
  • A Land Grant adds 5 plots for good.
  • Skyholds have their own plots (see Skyholds).
  • Razing a level frees its plot. Queued building levels reserve their plots.

Kindred buildings and arts use no plots.

Renown from your economy

Every 1,000 resources invested in buildings, lore, units, fortifications and the kindred quarter count as 1 renown. See Renown and the Rolls.
